A Colorful Office on a Budget, Two Ways

I was not totally satisfied with my first attempt at this colorful office idea, so I went after it again today. I love an authentic Womb Chair, but a $5,000+ designer chair in a largely Ikea office felt a little silly to me. So I decided to lean into the flatpack of it all and re-select some pieces on a slimmer budget. I started off with a Womb Replica from Modern Classics. I love the orange, but I am not sure how I feel about replicas in general. Where do you stand on replicas vs. authentic designs? I definitely support buying authentic designs from living designers and artists, but I wonder how long that should continue. For as long as they live? For 20 years after their death? Forever? I would love to hear your thoughts.

After I designed the second version of this office, I wanted to try one without a replica. For one, the replica is still a little spendy at over $1,000. And while I trust the fabric quality of the Knoll original, I don’t know how well the replica would hold up. When going for an upholstered piece on a budget, I find velvet styles to be one of the best options. Synthetic velvets hold up, they don’t pill, and they are so cozy. It took a while to find a chair I was excited about but once I did I fell in love. I might dream about this chair tonight, haha. Plus, the reviews are fantastic and it costs one tenth of the original Womb Chair in my first design yesterday. Links to all items are available below the Budget Breakdown!
